Hit a reef in the bay yesterday afternoon for a short two and a half hour wade. Conditions were perfect. Water was trout green, tide was rushing in, light east wind(which is ideal for this spot), with some light intermittent showers. Well, for once, the fishing matched the conditions. Ended up with ten between 18" and 20". Let go two others after I already had my limit(one was 22"). Lost three others. Now, here's the kicker. All fish caught on topwaters. Had twice as many blow ups as fish caught. If the pictures come out, that's my son. He didn't go with me, he just wanted to take pictures with dad and the fish.

Great stringer Billy. Even better when you catch 'em on tops.

Nice limit Billy. Thanks for sharing. So many times you get out in perfect conditions & the fishing doesn't own up to the conditions. Congrats on your trip. :fishing1:

Dang Billy, I'm gonna change your name to Top Water, Top Dog, S.S. Jr. or something. I think Billy spent all of 5 minutes throwing soft plastics last March in Baffin Bay & kept pace with everyone else. I'm still trying to build my confidence with top waters. I'm looking forward to another lesson the end of March.

LOL........don't know about the lesson thing, but am most definitely looking forward to fishin' down there in March. We'll see if we can't hit 'em up again.

What part of Lavaca Bay were you fishing? I grew up as a kid fishing and camping on Ceadar Point. Lots of fish caught there and on back up into Tiger Lake. We use to kill the Flounder out of the main Bayou that feeds out into Tiger Lake. Galiniper Reef was another hot spot on along the shoreline where all the wooden breakers are. Live fingermullet or small 4" curley grubs were deadly fishing the mouths of those wooden breakers. Also, have you been into Kellers Pocket? Great place to wade with topwaters. Never really caught any great big Trout back there but there plenty of legal Trout to 20" back there along with heards and heards of Reds.
