I got on the water about 2:30 on Friday afternoon. After a 15 minute boat ride I jumped out in a S. shore grass flat that was covered up with mullet and perch. I caught a nice 25" red in the first 20 yards from the boat. Caught him on a 1/4 oz johnson silver spoon while targeting trout. About 40 minutes later the bite turned off there. Then I headed north and fished the lee side of a small island with deep water on both sides and good current. I picked up a 10" flattie and 3 trout to 17" on a plastic shrimp with pink tail on 1/8 oz jig. I let the last trout, a 15-1/2" go. I posted my red in hand and friday evening end of day photos below. What a great way to end the work week!
Blazer Bay2420 joined me on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday we found bait piled up everywhere we went...but no game fish chasin' them. It was amazing to see all the bait just lazily swimming around unmolested. About the only time they'd get excited was when a lure would land in their midst. Needless to say we went everywhere and couldn't find the bite anywhere. Finally about 3:00 BB 2420 caught a nice trout on a white gulp shrimp under mega mauler off the north side of the hump in Pass Cavallo.
Sunday was better. the wind shifted to NE and the bait was popping all around us as the sun came up on our Grass Island grass flat. I got numerous blow-ups and 2 hook-ups on a Skitterwalk and Heddon Spittin' Image. The water was crystal clear...almost too clear. BB 2420 caught 10 trout in this spot on a Tsunami holo shad. Then a storm blew in so we headed south and ended up drifting Pringle lake where BB caught a nice 22" red and a couple small trout. His red photo is posted below with that Aggie colored t-shirt as back-ground.
All in all it was a great weekend and we both learned some new things about Port O'.
