I got on the water about 2:30 on Friday afternoon. After a 15 minute boat ride I jumped out in a S. shore grass flat that was covered up with mullet and perch. I caught a nice 25" red in the first 20 yards from the boat. Caught him on a 1/4 oz johnson silver spoon while targeting trout. About 40 minutes later the bite turned off there. Then I headed north and fished the lee side of a small island with deep water on both sides and good current. I picked up a 10" flattie and 3 trout to 17" on a plastic shrimp with pink tail on 1/8 oz jig. I let the last trout, a 15-1/2" go. I posted my red in hand and friday evening end of day photos below. What a great way to end the work week!

Blazer Bay2420 joined me on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday we found bait piled up everywhere we went...but no game fish chasin' them. It was amazing to see all the bait just lazily swimming around unmolested. About the only time they'd get excited was when a lure would land in their midst. Needless to say we went everywhere and couldn't find the bite anywhere. Finally about 3:00 BB 2420 caught a nice trout on a white gulp shrimp under mega mauler off the north side of the hump in Pass Cavallo.

Sunday was better. the wind shifted to NE and the bait was popping all around us as the sun came up on our Grass Island grass flat. I got numerous blow-ups and 2 hook-ups on a Skitterwalk and Heddon Spittin' Image. The water was crystal clear...almost too clear. BB 2420 caught 10 trout in this spot on a Tsunami holo shad. Then a storm blew in so we headed south and ended up drifting Pringle lake where BB caught a nice 22" red and a couple small trout. His red photo is posted below with that Aggie colored t-shirt as back-ground.

All in all it was a great weekend and we both learned some new things about Port O'.

by 9am Sunday the wife and I limited out on reds on the windward grass banks just freelining live shrimp and mullet although I think that they would eat anything. after that looked for trout and did lots of boat riding but I had to be satisfied with the reds. Went up into lighthouse cove. Lots of baitfish but no bites. Tasted the water, was not very salty.

The tide just kept coming in and in and in. It was almost in the door at froggies . Didn't even need the ramp to get boat in.

More NE wind on Monday morning and 3 nice reds early but after about 9am zippo. Tons of menhadden and mullet everywhere. Huge schools of them. Good practice for my throw net. Too bad nothin would hit them later.

Tide never seemed to quit coming in and when we pulled the boat out the guys at Froggies where pouring in gravel behind the bulkhead I suppose to keep the dock in place. Wierd. Must be something going on in the gulf to keep pushing that water in. I guess it will be all different when the first big blue norther comes in.

Its different every time I come down here, but a fun time no matter what.
Now its back to work. Come on out and take my place.
