I would LOVE to have a billy stix!!!! Ever since the first ABWF Tourney I have drooled over the rods at 13 palms. I even volunteered to do roof work so I could get in a ABWF tourney last year just to have a chance at a billy stix. Alas, I've never had the money to buy nor the skill to win one of these custom rods but I can always dream!
Ya need any roof work done? :D ask H2O... it survived a hurricane last summer!

Hey BillyStix.... You need to put FishinHippys name on your repair man list... You took a few good hits yourself there in Florida Cracker Land! Maybe FishinHippy can come over & trade you work for a Sticks...! Yup he did do a super roof job on my porch last year... He dont mind workin in the dead heat of the summer either!

My dad makes rods too. He doesnt sell them though. He had made me a spiral rod like your talking bout with a snook woven into it. I love the way this rod allows greater sensitivtity and has a great backbone with the sprial eyes. I would love to have another. The basic rod I have with my other Shimano doesnt compare to it. I can only imagine that the BillyStix is equal in quality and comparison. Would like to put it to the test with Dad's rod making ability.
See there, got the point across and no butt kissing...Unless that would help:hug:  In fact, I had caught that 40" Snook down in Boca Grande on it. You can see the rod in the Trophy room.

I havn't been fishing as long as a lot of the people on this board. And God knows that I am not half the fisherman a lot of them are. But I try my best. I havn't really had any really nice rods before, simply because I usually end up spending most of my money just to get down to the beach alone (ah college life eh?). But I like to look at nice rods and hold them when I get the chance. I remember the first time I saw a billystix last year down at 13 Palms. I was amazed...the whole wrap around guides thing was something I had never even fathomed. Then I went to your website where it explained the reasoning behind the spiral eyes, which makes perfect sense when you think about it. And it was such a beautiful, light rod! Even if I don't win, I'm hoping to be able to get enough money this summer to be able to buy one in the future!

Billy......have you ever made a pygmie rod before? NoName just had some news....i've never seen a kid fishun with a a custom-made Scooby-doo Billystix
If NoName wins the free rod...then you got plenty o time to get it done......9 months or so......by then you should know whether to make a Scoobie-Doo or a Little Mermaid. You supply the rod....and i'll donate the zebco.
If this is too much of a hassle for ya's...then what the who-hey......just make yer customary adult product ....send it to me....and i'll give it a good home.....3 hots and a cot.....and a few chums to set next to on the ole rod rack.......and i'll make sure it gets plenty of exercise in Christmas Bay and writes home to you and sends you a card on yer birfday and anniversaries.

Thanks Birdnester!!!! Ahh yes, a new rod would be nice...I need something to do and take up my time considering most of everything is out of the question. Looks like I will be the designated driver for everyone at the Tourny..I'll be the official shuttle to get everyone from Surfside to 13 Palms, LMAO...And a cute lil scooby-doo or Lil Mermaid, how adorable!!!

Actually --
I can see it now - nice picture on the cover of Texas Parks & Wildlife magazine; I've got the state record flounder (caught at the honey hole I DIDN'T show Moonpie the pirate) in one hand, ABWF cap on my head & holding the BillyStix in the other hand. Or maybe it'll be a record tripletail, or both (heck, go for broke - gonna put that 'yak to good use this season). I can see the caption: "BillyStix, the rod with the finesse for flounder and toughness to tackle tripletail."

Hello, I would like to have the billystix rod, because it would out fish and go on every trip to the coast ,be a custom to be proud of, and be and awsome piece of the puzzle which makes up catching fish. I would be proud to own/ fish a billystix rod. Put my name in the hat please, Billy. Have a great spring/ summer sir.

Everybody says they want a Billystix, but how many of them would give it the reverence it deserves....... I promise that if I catch a hardhead, I will quickly remove it before anybody could see that it was on a Billystix rod. I will Not get drunk and step on it .... well, I won't step on it. When not in use (which would not be often) I will store it high above the other "merely mortal" rods after thorough washdown. Thanks for the chance to win.

Folks, I am not seeing a whole lot of feedback for Billy. Some excitement, yes but not all that many entries. I suspect that some of you dont know what you are missing!
I have a spiral BillyStix and my fiance Thomas (texxan1 on 2cool) has two of them. Mine is a 6' rod with a short butt for kayak fishing, thomas's are 7 foot rods one of which he uses for plastics and the other more for popping corks.
Billy talks with you at length on the phone (he will not take an order by email) and figures out what kind of fishing you do and what kind of rod you would want, what length, what stiffness, etc. He asks you what colors you like, what you want written on the rod, the whole schmeer. It truly is a custom work of art and a fish catching machine. The spinning rods are not spiral but no less special.
Put your two cents in here for a free rod! You will not regret it!
I have to agree with MsAddicted, if youve never fished with a BillyStix you just dont know what your missing. The first time you hook up and fight a fish the spiral wrap guides will start making alot of sense to you. I personally own one myself and in the summer time it gets no vacation.

:noidea:
and yes i too do not understand the slow response to this free rod contest:noidea: but like they said the spiral rod "spiralstix" once it is used you will ask yourself how can a rod of this fishability cost so little, what i am trying to say is once you use a spiralstix you will have a hard time going back to your other rods, now to have a chance to win one free its like having someone walk up to ya and forkinnnn over a couple hunnneertt bucks, just dont happen often, the same with my spin rods, got the spline aligned correctly got the guides spaced as well as the correct sizes in line makes for a far better spin rod when all things are lined up correctly.
bet you did not know how a spin rod ""fires"" like a riffle did you????: ever have any one explain the loading of the rod after the fireing???? many things to know about your billystix custom rod.
would you just like to chat, no car sales here just call and chat.

I'd like mine with Pine Green threads around the eyes with just a couple Hot Pink threads right through the middle of each and "baylvr" in Hot Pink painted on it... Thank you!!

You would be crazy not to reply to this thread. I mean a custom rod much less a free custom rod is nothing to shake a stick at:pound: . I would love to have a rod built by billystix. There was a time when I had 1 rod, that's it, for cat fishing ,saltwater, anything. I could not understand why someone would need more than one rod,boy was I living in the stone ages:doh: . Don't know what I was thinking way back when. Now there are a couple custom rods in me arsonal.

hi gull
thanks for the kind words, you have described the spiral to a t, it does just as you said it does.:thumb:
now for some info from stix that i just found out from giving a talk about billystix spirals at a off shore club here in fla.
i was giving the demo on how well and balanced the spiral worked, i had a guy holding the rod while i put a load on the spiral, some one asked me what would happen if i put my spiral in the rod holder while trolling with the reel facing the water, thus putting the rod in the holder backwards and a fish hits say a king, i said:doh: i dont know lets see, so the guy holding the rod turned the rod over with the reel facing down, now i said to my self"self" you fixxxnnn to get your arss in a crack, so i put the load on the rod just like normal. guess what we discovered??? results in just a second, you have heard me talk about the reel wanting to stand and stay totally upright during a fight with say a red and i never knew just why it did that, well the rod when i turned it over facing the floor, the dang reel tried with all its mercy to return to its up right position thats right it tried to revert its self back to the top, it only moved up towards its upright position about a couple inches but this is another example of the spiral effect, the reel will never roll on you during a fight.
a billystix spiral is truly one fine rod, you really need to give one a try.
