Got to my local pond this morning just before 7AM to see if the fish would be cooperating. Switched from my Bagley small fry perch bait to a Clear Crazy Shad(top water). The bass were hungry! They were right up against the rocks, the only structure in the lake, and in the shade. First fish about 7:30 a solid 3.5-4lbs, he missed it 3 times before taking it! Two casts later, a channel cat about the same size drilled my top water as soon as it landed. Catching a cat on top was a first for me...ugh it was slimy! Moved to the rocks on the east shoreline to stay in the shade and caught three more bass all in the 3lb range and right up close. I missed one and picked up my worm rod and immediately snagged it. Only the snag was moving! Fought the fish for several minutes on 8lb test spinning gear(Shimano, of course) and it turned out to be a big carp with the hook in the side of his mouth. I was able to haul it up the shore when the line broke as soon as I landed it. (also a first). I had a couple more blow-ups but no more luck. The gnats were buzzing to the point that I couldn't take it anymore...God's way of saying time to GO! All in all, great morning!:fishing1:

Way to go wug. Sounds like a good morning - with a variety of species landed. I hate those pesky knats. They are always biting my scalp for some reason. Itches to all get out.
