i flew up to washington state to spend chrstmas with my dad. well it all started with a late trip to the river. got there in time for an evening proull to hunt some steelhead(big mean ocean ran rainbow trout). we got to a sweet hjole and a matter of minutes im hooked up with about a 15lber and 3 jumps later and one cartwheel i was the one that was almost the one hooked(he threw the hook).
that was the end of that night we make our way to a hotel for the night and stayed up way no WAY TOO late (3am).with a wake up call at 7 that was ended with no one up we eventually drug our bodies out of bed to get some free breakfast b4 9. so we got up at 845. finally got back on the rivr bout 11ish and started to "hunt" the steel head again. i say hunt b/c if they see u b4 u see them u wont get them to bite(lockjaw) we come up to this one pool and theres 2 beautiful fis one bout 12lbs the other roughly 18lb HUGE. but the saw use. we threw everything in front of them until they got pissed and left. then we see about a hundred salmon that were all bout dead. so we left em alone.we fished all day and things started to look pretty slim!

we then go to the "last" spot of the day with about 30 min. of daylight left and about 25 degrees(way to cold for me) and BAM i hooked up on a 29in 10lb steelhead that reminded me of a redfish it would come in and then rip 40 to 50 ft of line out NOT down river either usually up or strait across. ended up fight this bad boy for about 20 min. b4 i landed her.

Beautiful fish one_last_cast. And memory of Washington State to last a lifetime. I got to catch some king salmon @ the mouth of the Columbia River when I was about 9 years old. Will never forget that trip. Congrats. :fishing1:

Yeah! Beautiful Trout.

People might refer to that as a Steelhead (and it is for sure!) because it's such a mature Rainbow Trout, but it's prettier than most Steelhead you'll ever see because it was sea-run and lived on a very-high protein diet out there in the ocean.

Seriously - nicest Rainbow (Steelhead) I've ever seen.

Congrats.

I agree. I'm tired of bass eating the rainbows in the ponds. I'm ready to catch some rainbows that have been eating the bass.
