My malibu kayak and I went to west bay today with a couple of fellow yakers and had great results on the reds. we hit the grass banks and looked for tails early.
easy and i were watching this 1 area when the flounder started leaping out of the water. i was thinking you could land 1 on topwater but easy said i am gunna fly rod his butt. and started the stalk. i have never seen a flounder completely leave the water busting bait. got a couple pics of easy fly fishing and i moved on to another grass bank. i watched the grass till i saw some nervous bait then the tail popped up. i landed a cast about 4 ft. in front of him and waited till he was close and twitch , twitch. boom. redfish on. it was a nice size red and put up a good battle but was no match. realeased him and started the stalk again. i rounded a point and saw a tail pop up again,so i sent the top sailing to him and whammo fish on it was another 1 i did not see that was closer. this was a much nicer fish and drug me around and scared the others away. 25.5 and on the stringer for some half shell delight. it balled my line up on the reel so the next cast the topwater went and went and went i saw the re entry point and retrieved it later. switched to a spook jr. and i continued on the QUEST and caught 1 more at about 20 to 21 inches and released him to grow up some. it got real hot and decided to call it a day of good fishing. Easy will post up pics to.

Really Good post,... Those Yaks are the "Ticket" to stalking fish in places where boats or feet cannot take you. Keep us posted on your further adventures in the Yak.

Flounder? Someone say flounder? LOL nice going on the reds! I sure would love to see a flounder jump out of the water and right into me net. Course, kinda defeats the purpose of gigging and takes the fun out of it. Way to go.

I saw flounder jumping out of the water before at Greens Lake. The flounder bite was slow when that happened but the rats were eating Me up. When the flounder wasn't jumping the bite was on and the rats stopped. Good looking pics keep'em coming.

this is the latest rod i built to catch them on. it was a field test and i was very pleased. the blank is a CTS from auckland new zeeland . a 7 ft. 4 to 8 gram tournament blank. the reel is a jap. shimano metanium xt. sweet set up and does not weigh a feather. the split grip was a newbee for me but now i am hooked.

Looks like a great setup! One of my problems is that I have small hands & from my wrist to my elbow is not long either so must rod grips & handels are too big/long for me... this one looks like it would be a good way to take care of that problem! Where can you get the reel? Have you tried out the new Curado 100D yet?

A lot of people have the same problem with handle length. thats why i build them a little shorter. i have a kayak version where the handle is only 7.5 inches. keeps it out of your sleeve and pocket.
i ordered this reel from japan. an on line tackle dealer. it is the equivalent of an american chronarch but is 1 oz. lighter and has 1 extra bering. where they pu it ????. they have a completely different line of reels for the japs. its preaty cool with names like . scorpoin xt., metanium mg. [which is a magnesium reel, stay away from it. not good in salt ] metanium xt. and many others. i am a reel nut. lol. i have 17 shimano's from as far back as the old silver 1000 sg tournament bantam. and i still use some.

you can get them new, cheaper on ebay.. here mine is 299.00 + shipping. i got mine on ebay 215.00 to my door from japan.
